To maintain a well organised and efficiently run school we have a number of policies which clearly articulate our shared expectations. We appreciate the high levels of parent support which assist us to reinforce these policies and maintain the high standard for which Frenchville is known.
Dress code
At Frenchville we are very proud of our royal blue and white uniform. Our dress code (PDF, 67 KB) is strictly enforced and students wear the uniform proudly and respectfully.
Religious instruction
Queensland state schools embrace a multitude of cultural, religious and non-religious beliefs. Under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006, schools are to provide Religious Instruction (RI) if approached by a faith group seeking to provide RI and students of that faith attend the school.
RI informs students about the beliefs and values of a particular religion. It is delivered by volunteers of a faith group using instructional materials approved by that faith group. RI is required to be consistent with legislation and Department of Education policies and procedures.
All RI instructors must hold a blue card and participate in compulsory Student Protection and Code of Conduct training. RI instructors are only entitled to deliver the RI program outlined below. A school staff member will be present during the delivery of RI.
Participation in RI is not compulsory. Any student (except Prep students) may participate in RI if a parent has provided written instructions to the school.
Students are allocated to RI based on information provided by parents on the completed Application for student enrolment unless other written instructions have been provided to the school.
Note: This consent remains in effect unless the parent informs the school otherwise in writing.
Religious instruction occurs on Thursday afternoons for a 30-minute period.
The list of faith groups that provide religious instructors to deliver an authorised program is published for parents annually. The 2021 list is shown below:
| Arrangements for Program | Participating Faith Group/s | Program of Instruction authorised by the Faith Group |
| Cooperative Program | ECUMENICAL: All Christian denominations | "Beginning with God" - Year 1 "Godspace" Program - Years 2-6 |
| Single Program | Catholic | "Christ: Our Light and Life" Program |
| Single Program | Bahai | "Bahai Education in State Schools" |
Parents of children participating in these programs will be advised if a faith group requires funds to cover the expense of materials used in RI.
Other Instruction
Students who are not participating in RI will be provided with other instruction in a separate supervised location. Other instruction must relate to part of a subject area already covered in class and may include:
- personal research and/or assignments
- revision of class work such as creative writing or literacy and/or numeracy activities
- wider reading such as independent reading appropriate to the student
Parents will be advised of any changes to the RI and other instruction programs to ensure they are able to make an informed decision on their child's participation.
Mobile phone and electronic devices
Frenchville has a clear, decisive mobile phone and electronic device policy (PDF, 217KB) to clarify our expectations about the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices. Please ensure your child understands this policy by reading over it together.
Homework
Homework provides regular reinforcement of important school concepts and builds links between home and school. Teachers will communicate expectations at the start
of each year. Homework generally consists of participation in the Reading
Knights Program, spelling and number facts drill and practice.
We encourage parents to discuss and check homework with
your child. It is our main priority that every child
participates in our ‘Reading Knights’ program.
Students collect tokens as they achieve nights of home reading
targets. This program promotes a love of
reading and literature.
Sun safety
At Frenchville we are committed to sun safe practices for our students and staff. Our sun safe policy outlines our strategy for protecting our students against the dangers of the sun.
Volunteers
At Frenchville we value the work of our school volunteers. Together we shape the success of our school. Our volunteer policy (PDF, 74 KB) shows how you can support us through volunteering.
Exclusion for health reasons
If you have concerns that your child may have an infectious disease which requires a period of exclusion, please refer to the time out table (PDF, 702KB). This table provides information about the length of time students need to be excluded from school in the event of them contracting an infectious condition, for both their own recovery and the safety of other students who may be immuno-suppressed.
