School incursions and excursions
Children will be given the opportunity to go on various incursions and excursions during the school year. These have been planned to support curriculum learning, enrich their knowledge of the community and environment, and to widen their knowledge of the activities and the occupations of people in the community.
Some incursions and excursions will require payment for children to be able to attend. For a list of accepted please see Payments.
School camps
In Year 5, an overnight camp to Konomie (North Keppel Island) is conducted. Accommodation on the island usually limits us to a maximum of 2 classes attending the camp at one time. The camp, usually in Term 2, has a strong link to the science curriculum and provides an excellent learning environment for developing social interactions with peers. The camp also doubles as a Leadership Camp, with all students developing skills essential for being a student leader in Year 6 – skills such as: teamwork, interacting with others, showing initiative, organising, speaking, developing independence and being responsible. Students can use this opportunity to start thinking about applying for an elected student leader position later in Term 4 of Year 5.
In Year 6, a longer camp, with the whole Year 6 cohort, is conducted. For many years, the Year 6 group went to Canberra, however since COVID19, we have found a trip within Queensland more affordable and better supported by parents. Each year, we now aim to have a trip to Brisbane in Term 3. The trip extends on the students' social development, and has strong links to the Science, HASS, Arts and HPE curriculum areas.
